A concerning TikTok trend is circulating among students at Dalhart ISD, encouraging them to insert pencil lead, foil, or other conductive materials into their school-issued Chromebook USB ports to make the device smoke or spark. While some users see it as a prank or viral challenge, this is both dangerous and illegal.
Tampering with electronic devices in this way poses serious fire and electrical hazards. It can cause permanent damage to the Chromebook, lead to potential injury, and may include school disciplinary action or even criminal charges for property destruction. The lithium ion batteries, when short-circuited, can overheat, swell, catch fire, or even explode, posing a serious threat to the student and others nearby
Educators and parents are urged to talk with students about the consequences of participating in such trends. School issued technology is not only a valuable learning tool but also school property therefore, intentionally damaging or destroying it is not a joke, it's destruction of school property.

We are going to be on our IMPACT bell schedule, everyday day, until further notice. We will be utilizing IMPACT period to help our students fill in any missing gaps in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills standards, as well as, give students the opportunity to make up any missing classroom assignments. Students who decide to not take advantage of this extra time will be assigned after-school tutorials for more individualized instruction.
We are asking every parent to help us by supporting this plan and to also give your student some extra encouragement to give Excellent Effort Everyday!
Be sure to log in to Parent Portal to check on daily grades and assignments. Students also have access to Student Portal to monitor grades and any missing assignments. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your student's classroom teacher or our front office at 806-244-7825.
