Dalhart ISD Update:
I apologize for the late post but we had a board meeting this evening and wanted to meet as administrators and check in with law enforcement before posting.
Here is what I can share with you in regard to today’s events.
Law enforcement was made aware of a threat at DHS. They notified the district and students were placed in holding. After making sure there was no Imminent danger students were released to lunch on the high school campus.
The DISD administration and law enforcement followed every lead and still have not found a creditable threat.
DISD wants to thank the Dalhart PD, both the Hartley & Dallam County Sheriff Offices, as well as the fire departments and Emergency Management Coordinators for their swift response and making sure we were safe.
Law enforcement was present on all 4 campuses. I was very proud of our administration, our faculty, and our students. Everyone responded appropriately and made sure our students were taken care of.
I understand parent concerns and the desire for more communication. But there are three very big important factors that determine what and when we can share information.
#1 Our first priority is student & staff safety and making sure we are not in imminent danger. We can not waste valuable time communicating when the facility has not been secure.
#2 We do not want to impede an investigation and must have law enforcement approval before releasing information.
#3 Every bit of information we share with parents and community members on social media, the bad guys could have access to as well.
If you are upset with anyone of the timing of the communication be upset with me. We will take every threat serious, we cannot assume anything is not serious, but never doubt your child’s safety is our number one responsibility.
Understand that most administrators have children that attend DISD, & some of us have spouses that are employed here as well.
As far as allowing your child to attend school tomorrow.
No one knows your child better than you do. If your child is concerned or you have concerns regarding them attending school tomorrow, keep them home with you. They will be marked with an excused absence. Both today and tomorrow’s excused absence will not count against your child for attendance purposes or in regards to semester exams. Safety will always outweigh academics in regard to DISD decisions.
The high school and junior high campuses were in the middle of six weeks exams. We WILL NOT HAVE SIX WEEKS EXAMS, for the first six weeks.
We understand students will not be in the right state of mind to take tests this week. We will have assessments next week to see where we are at academically.
We will have a heavy presence of law enforcement on each campus this week and as long as it takes.
If I have not addressed your concerns please do not hesitate to reach me by my cell or office phone or by email.
Sincerely,
Jeff Byrd
Superintendent of Schools
Dalhart ISD
Law enforcement has released students from the hold position on both the High School and Junior High Campus. The High School has been released from lunch. We have adjusted the schedule to allow everyone an opportunity to have lunch.
If you choose to check your students out and keep them at home today you are more than welcome to do so. This will not count against them in regards to absences for semester tests.
We sincerely appreciate your patience and understand your concerns. Our number one responsibility is keeping your children safe at all times.
When law enforcement has completed their investigation DISD will make a media release and update everyone.

Today at 11:45 the Dalhart PD received notification from a tip reporting agency that a student brought a firearm to school today.
At the request of law enforcement we went into a holding pattern to make certain that our students were safe. At this time there is no creditable threat. At the request of law enforcement we will remain in a holding pattern to assure everyone’s safety. As soon as we are allowed to remove the students from a holding pattern we will do so. As soon as we have the authority to release more information we will do so.

This Message was emailed to DJHS Parents and announced at school on February 2nd.
Dear Parent or Guardian,
Due to the high number of tardies, Dalhart Junior High will be enforcing the following beginning Monday, February 5:
First Period tardies will result in Lunch Detention.
3 or more tardies in any class period for the remainder of the semester will result in a full day of In-School Suspension.
For each tardy over 3, students will be assigned one hour of Saturday School. Example 4 tardies = 1 hour, 5 tardies = 2 hours, etc.
Students with 10 or more tardies are at risk of being required to attend Truancy Court.
Remember school starts at 7:50 a.m. each day. The tardy bell rings at 7:55 a.m.
Thank you for helping DJHS encourage the important message of being to school on time, every day.
These students have had a blast showing animals and being involved in the WTAMU Downs Guild.

We were just told that the AT&T Firstnet Satcolt truck has an ETA of 5:00pm. Not sure how long it takes to setup.

Dalhart ISD is an AT&T FirstNet customer. Our Tech department has been in contact with our AT&T/Firstnet reps on the current area outage. During the process a request has been made for a Satcolt to bring temporary service to the area. We were just notified that the Satcolt is on the way.
DISD is still experiencing issues with outgoing long distance calling. We have been told that this is an issue with nationwide upstream providers. Some 806 numbers have been ported around from other carriers and may be effected also. At this time we have no ETA of the fix.

DISD is currently experiencing issues with outgoing phone calls. Incoming calls are not effected at this time.
Due to extreme fog over the area, Dalhart ISD will delay start. School will start at 10:00am. Busses will run 2 hours late.
Dalhart ISD will start school at 10:00AM Wednesday Jan. 10th. In town busses only will run in the morning. Out of town busses will run in the afternoon.

3rd Six Weeks Progress Reports have been posted on Parent Portals!!
